Leighton Pelletier snapped a 2-2 tie, scoring the game-winning goal with just over five minutes to play as the Nickel City Major Atom "AA" Sons edged the Sudbury Major Atom "AA" Wolves in Nickel District Minor Hockey League action last Sunday.
Sudbury opened the scoring on an early goal from Samuel Piette, but the Sons got it back, with Gillis O'Daiskey pulling the visitors even before the end of the frame and Noah Lefrancois giving Nickel City their first lead, connecting from the point on the power play midway through period two.
Tanner Morris would draw Sudbury even less than two minutes into the final stanza, with both goaltenders seemingly intent on keeping this one as a draw before Pelletier converted off the rush.
The win moved the Sons (8-1-2) into a first place tie with the North Bay Major Atom "AA" Trappers (9-1-0), with the Wolves sitting third at 6-2-0, but with three games in hand on their cross-town rivals.
The "AA" Atom Sons are back in action on Saturday, facing the Nickel City Minor Peewee "A" Sharks, while the Major Atom "AA" Wolves will face the Sudbury Peewee "A" Wolves on the same day.
