Parker Savard off to great start in Minnesota
2019-04-17

Parker Savard wanted an opportunity to show what he could do.

Based on the results to date, the Dakota County Technical College Blue Knights are more than a little thankful that they offered the Sudbury native the opportunity to showcase his wares on the diamonds of the Rosemount (Minnesota) campus.

The Blue Knights season might be less than two months old, but the freshman infielder and graduate of Bishop A Carter Catholic Secondary School in Hanmer is a big part of the reason that DCTC is taking a 17-11 record into a home and home series this coming weekend versus Century College.

Savard is leading the way, quite handily, in the hitting department, boasting an average of .379, well ahead of fellow rookies Henry Laue (.328) and Carter Wendlandt (.327).

The slick-fielding second baseman is also first in OBP (.478) and hits (22), second in RBIs (13) and fourth in runs scored (13). While the highlights have been many, a game-winning single in the bottom of the seventh, lifting the Blue Knights to a 4-3 win over Montgomery College to wrap up a ten game stretch at the RussMatt Invite in Florida last month certainly ranks near the top.

A familiar face in workouts with The Baseball Academy, Savard was a long-time "AAA" hockey talent locally, suiting up with the Sudbury Nickel Capital Wolves prior to heading south of the border to pursue his baseball dreams.
