A tough, hilly course welcomed the cyclists on the first Ontario leg of the Canada Cup XCO Series on June 10th, with Nicholas Carrier recording the top local result, a seventh place finish in the Master Expert Men 30-39 division (1:26.14).
Tyrone Daniel was two spots back, part of the Master Sport Men 30-39 bracket (1:10.09), while long-time Nickel City Aquatics' swimmer Luukas Ovaska was 17th in the Junior Expert Men classification (1:21:31).
Rounding out the local results were club president Rob St Marseille (23rd - Master Expert Men 50-59 - 1:45:00) and Wolfpak newcomer Elijah Jeffrey (25th - Cadet Sport Men - 1:00:52).
Exactly one week later, under blistering heat, the WMBC contingent were treated to a fast, flowy course, one on which veteran Alex Anstice excelled, earning a bronze medal podium placement in the Master Expert 30-39 Men's Division, posting a time of 1:19.54.
Nick Carrier came in some six minutes later (1:25:49), placing 9th in the same category, while Ian Sagle was forced to withdraw with heat exhaustion. Ovaska (25th - Junior Expert Men - 1:26:14), Daniel (7th - Master Sport 30-39 Men - 1:22:13), Jeffrey (20th - Cadet Sport Men - 1:09:45) and St. Marseille (28th - Master Sport 50-59 Men - 1:58:37) were all right back at it, as the locals look to a very busy summer of mountain bike racing.
Next up for the WolfPak is the Summer Solstice 24 Hr Relay this weekend (June 23rd-24th) at Albion Hills.
