Third period goals by Jeremy Campbell and Drake Jacko just 19 seconds apart proved to be the difference as the Espanola Atom Eagles - Blue edged the Nickel Centre Jets 2-1 in the final game of the Wayne and Lucie Eadie Spirit of Hockey Houseleague Tournament Sunday afternoon at the Carmichael Arena.
The Jets, who dropped a 3-2 round robin decision earlier in the weekend to the Eagles, received a goal from Tanner Rollins with just over four minutes to play, making things interesting through to the final buzzer.
Meanwhile, over at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex, Westmeath (near Cobden) received a pair of goals from Colin Price, taking the midget crown with a 4-2 win over Rouyn Noranda.
Eddy Tomkinson and Michael Plazek rounded out the scoring for the winners, while Samuel Guertin and Vincent Dessureault replied for the visitors from Québec.
In a matchup of local entries, the Rayside-Balfour Tigercats trimmed the Onaping Falls Huskies 3-1 in the bantam final, scoring all of their goals in the second period.
Caleb Lalonde, Maxime Verreault and Cody Lauzon scored for Rayside, with Tanner Morrison deflecting a point shot on the power play early in period three to account for the only Onaping goal.
The Sudbury Minor Hockey Association sponsored tournament filled three local rinks for the weekend, attracting a nice mix of Greater Sudbury representatives and out of town guests.
