The final "inter-season" tournament for the men's soccer league opened on Tuesday night, with the Italia Flyers advancing to the semi-finals of the Dagostino Cup thanks to a 5-2 win over Sudbury Athletic Voima.
A balanced Flyers attack featured strikes from Brian Ashton, Joel Cropp, Mario Marcantognini, Thomas Petersen and Travis Perrin, while Rod Boucher and Nic Charlemagne countered for the Athletic.
In semi-final action, the Flyers continued to own the Atletic, defeating Sudbury Athletic Fury 3-1 and setting up a championship matchup with Sudbury United.
Coach Frank Anselmo guided his troops to a 5-1 win over Croatia Adria on Thursday and will look to become the third different team this summer to emerge with a "Cup" title.
With roughly a month remaining of regular season play, United continues to hold on to first place, three points ahead of the Flyers. Each team has four games still on the schedule, including a head to head tilt on September 23rd at 9:00 p.m. at Queen's Athletic Field.
