Before the game, Sudbury Minor Bantam "AA" Bulldogs head coach Mark Gobbo noted that his team had nothing to lose. Playing that way, the Dogs narrowly missed recording the upset of the night, dropping a 1-0 decision to the Sudbury Major Bantam "AA" Bulldogs at the Carmichael Arena.
With minor goaltender Scott Adams turning aside 34 of the 35 shots he faced, the contest remained scoreless into the final period of play. Thankfully for the elder Bulldogs, Bryceton Lalonde would provide just enough offense for victory, banging home a rebound with just under eight minutes to play.
Marcello Pascheto was substantially less busy at his end of the rink, making 11 saves in picking up the shutout. The close affair was in stark contrast to a trio of lopsided encounters Monday evening at the Toe Blake Arena in Coniston.
The SMHA Atom Predators set the tone, scoring four times in the third period and beating Valley East Urban Windows 7-2. Matthew Muzzi, Dominic Morris and Lewis Godin scored two goals apiece for the Preds, with Logan West rounding out the attack.
In Bantam Division play, captain Hunter Hykin drained the hat-trick, leading the SMHA 80's Red Wings to a 9-1 win over the Capreol Hawks. Kolt Gour-Boyd and Joshua Tillson chipped in with two goals each, with Connor Crossman and Joey Ross completing the scoring.
Alexi Piette scored at 4:52 of the second period to account for the only Capreol goal. Things weren't a whole lot closer in the midget finale as the SMHA 80's Red Wings blasted the Elliot Lake Rampage 10-2, powered in part by a three-goal effort from Christian Larivière.
Matt Tuttle scored twice, with single tallies coming courtesy of Jordan Loiselle, Kyle Marshall-Bergeron, Eric Squarzalo, Cody Lavoie and Zach Matheson. Riley McComb and William Hardisty replied in a losing cause for the Rampage.
