Benoit's Martial Arts & Fitness provided quality, if not quantity.

The group sent just three competitors to the WKC Provincials in Sault Ste Marie earlier this month, but that did not stop the locals from returning home with an impressive array of hardware.

Xtreme Team member Brianna Smith ran the gamut, finishing first in traditional kata, open weapons, kumite as well as earning grand champion honours after capturing top spot in every category in which she competed.

Displaying even greater versatility, Smith was coming off a similar performance in London, earning gold in traditional kata, traditional weapons, open weapons as well as both continuous and points sparring.

Xtreme teammate Connor DiSalle placed first in the Soo in traditional weapons and second in kata, while sibling Ryan DiSalle, a member at Benoit's Martial Arts, earned a first place ribbon in kata and fourth in kumite.

Many of the local martial arts competitors will be on hand on (Saturday) May 4th when Cambrian College plays host to the 28th Annual Mid-Canada Karate Championships. The event is expected to draw, once again, a large contingent of athletes from across northern Ontario.
