With three OVA (Ontario Volleyball Association) tournaments already under their belts, the Northern Chill U-16 Girls travelled to Peterborough for Bugarski Cup action, looking to refine their play in anticipation of Provincials next month.

Despite getting their first look at a 6’4” opposing middle in game one, the locals held it together, besting the DRVC 15U (Durham Region) 25-22, 25-21.

Next up was a battle with the # 1 seed, and despite perhaps their best effort of the day, the Chill fell 25-23, 10-25, 10-15 to the Vision U16 Girls from North Bay.

Facing the Maverick Trailblazers (Ottawa) for the second time this year, the locals struggled in their cross-over game, outscored 25-9, 25-17 despite an impressive effort from setter Amanda Rigg.

One final match would bring the Chill toe to toe with the Durham Attack, the second seeded team entering the event. With Gabrielle Huneault showing the way offensively, the northern girls kept it close, eventually succumbing 22-25, 21-25.

Finishing 7th, the Chill will now turn their attention to the OVA Provincials, set for the weekend of April 12th to 14th. In addition to Rigg and Huneault, U16 Chill roster also features Alana Dugdale, Megan LaBrash, Natalee Parisotto, Kaitlyn Gillis-McAnulty, Kayla Wandziak, Hanna Bird, Shayna Graham, Katherine Webb and Julia Lamarche, as well as coaches Joanna Castonguay and Kelsey Bastien.
