Tigers tamed at Capital Fall Classic
2012-11-08

Taking part in the 8th Annual Capital Fall Classic in Ottawa at the end of October, the Nickel City Minor Bantam Tigers were provided a good measuring stick of exactly where they need to be later in the year.

The local crew finished round robin play with a record of 1-1-1, barely missing out on advancing to the quarter-finals. Despite running into a red-hot goaltender, the Tigers opened tournament play on a winning note, blanking the Flamborough Sabres 2-0.

Surrendering a late goal in game two would eventually prove costly as the Nickel City lads settled for a 2-2 tie with the Toronto Eagles. Needing a win in game three and already down a couple of bodies on the blueline prior to heading to the nation's capital, the Tigers simply ran out of steam.

Battling the 7th ranked Kingston Canadians, the locals jumped out to a 1-0 lead but could not hold on against a very disciplined eastern Ontario side. "As a coaching staff, we were happy with the effort in the tournament," said assistant coach Mitch White.

"Although it would it would have been nice to advance, the kids gave it their all but just ran out of gas. The teams we faced were good, with Kingston being a very strong team, showing where we want to be later in the season," added White.

Along with league play every Wednesday night at the Ray Plourde Arena in Val Caron, the Tigers will be busy later in November, heading to the Toronto Wolverines Tournament.

The 2012-2013 Nickel City Minor Bantam Tigers features a roster that includes goaltenders Nicholas Larocque and Cameron Lamour, as well as skaters Justin Lindenbach, Jacob Brown, Tristan Duncan, Dawson Nootchtai, Kyle Presseau, Eric Lefebvre, Marc Andre Quevillion, Dylan Goulet, Cameron Keenan, Kris Lizzi, Kyle Allair, Ryan Rouleau, Alexander Bouthillier and cross-country speedster Ben Lagadin.

The coaching staff includes head coach Rick Poitras, assistants Mitch White and Gerry Viau (goaltending coach), trainer Cory Lefebvre and co-managers Chantal Goulet and Sara Allair.
