The Nickel City Midget "AA" Rebels pushed their unbeaten string to five games to begin the 2012-2013 season earlier this week, tripling the West Nipissing Sting 6-2 at the Raymond Plourde Arena in Val Caron.
The Rebels scored three times in the second period to open up a 5-1 lead, cruising to their fourth win in five games, with a tie against the Copper Cliff Redmen as their only blemish to date.
Brady Jones paced the Nickel City attack with a hat-trick, with Tyson Troscinski, Cody Boileau and Luc Seguin rounding out the scoring for the winners. Alexei Brazeau and Jesse Beaudry replied for the Sting, posting a record of 1-3 in the early going of Nickel District Minor Hockey League (NDMHL) play.
Over in Walden, the Nickel City Minor Midget "AA" Flyers salvaged a 2-2 tie with the Elliot Lake Rampage as Michael Lemieux scored with just 5:42 to play, earning the homeside a single point.
Nick Marion opened the scoring for the Flyers with the only goal of the opening frame, with Miles Reid and Alexandre Sidock replying just over four minutes apart in the middle stanza, giving Elliot Lake a 2-1 lead.
The game featured a total of just five minor penalties as the Rampage picked up their first point of the season (0-4-1), while the Flyers find themselves in third place with a record of 2-0-2.
In midget action on Wednesday night, the Sudbury Minor Midget "AA" Bulldogs waited even longer to pull one out of the fire, receiving a power play' goal from Jeremy Couchie in the final minute to pull even with the Flyers, 2-2 at the Carmichael Arena.
Couchie broke the ice with his first goal of the game early in the second period before Mitchell Mousseau and Josh Favaro countered for the Nickel City crew.
In Bantam II play last nigth, the Nickel City Bantam "A" Flyers scored three unanswered third period goals, posting a come-from-behind 4-2 win over the Nickel City Minor Bantam "AA" Tigers.
Tyler Mantha scored a pair of goals just 2:16 apart in the final stanza, with Matthieu Verreault and Mason Blinn chipping in with one goal apiece for the winners.
Alexandre Bouthillier knotted the game at 1-1, just 20 seconds after Verreault opened the scoring in the first for the Flyers, while Kyle Preseau gave the Tigers a 2-1 lead after two periods of play.
Nickel District play continues on several fronts tonight, including a pair of Bantam I games as the Nickel City Bantam "AA" Rebels play host to the Blind River Hounds in Azilda, while the Copper Cliff Redmen travel to Little Current to battle the Manitoulin Panthers.
