Joanette and the Green Knights defend their crown

Rayside-Balfour product Alain Joanette will graduate on a winning note.

The one-time leading scorer in the Great North Midget Hockey League and his teammates with the St Norbert Green Knights defended their NCAA Division III title earlier this month in Lake Placid (New York), topping the Oswego State Lakers 4-1.

Cody Keefer (Grayling, Michigan) netted the hat-trick to power the Wisconsin school to their second consecutive Frozen Four title.

St Norbert advanced to the finals after a 4-1 win over the Norwich Cadets while Oswego State eliminated the Amherst College Lord Jeffs 2-1, also in semi-final action.

Joanette finished the 2011-2012 regular season with 25 points in 30 games, after recording 19 one year ago. The Green Knights, based out of Depere (Wisconsin), just outside of Green Bay, slipped past the Adrian College Bulldogs 4-3 in Minneapolis a year ago this time, earning their second men's hockey title in school history.

In addition to spending time with the Rayside-Balfour Sabrecats, Joanette enjoyed his junior hockey experience with the Collingwood Blues, Bancroft Hawks, Prince George Spruce Kings, Cornwall Colts and Peterborough Stars, participating in a pair of RBC Cup tournaments.
