Within seconds of earning a home playoff berth, the Laurentian Voyageurs will enjoy a chance at redemption Wednesday afternoon in Kingston.

After posting a regular season record of 6-4-4, the L.U. lads found themselves in 5th place with 22 points, two back of the Queen's Golden Gaels and four behind the Ryerson Rams.

That scenario means that for the third time in 18 days, Laurentian and Queen's will go head to head, with the loser calling it a season.

Coach Carlo Castrechino and company are heading back to the same destination where they closed out their 2011 campaign last weekend with a win and a tie.

With injuries and suspensions a clear-cut concern for the locals, a number of players received significantly more playing time than usual on Saturday as the Voyageurs battled the Royal Military College (RMC) Paladins.

The homeside held firm through the opening 45 minutes, breaking for half locked in a scoreless draw. With Laurentian in dire need of a win, Dieri Drame scored in the 57th minute, providing a little breathing room for the visitors.

But the victory wasn't completely secured until the dying minutes when Mark Meihm and Liam Dougherty scored moments apart, allowing the Voyageurs to leave with a 3-0 triumph.

Goaltender Dave Szczepaniak recorded the shutout for the blue and gold. Needing a win on Sunday to wrench home field advantage from the hands of the Gaels, Laurentian engaged in a wild affair with Queen's.

The tone appeared set for a tight defensive battle in the opening half as Patrick Zanetti broke the ice late, giving the home side a 1-0 lead in the 44th minute.

A second marker by Zanetti just 10 minutes into the second half changed the complexion of the game entirely. Forced to open it up, Laurentian did exactly that and were rewarded with goals from Faruk Yahaya and Andrew Posteraro only minutes apart.

With seconds ticking away, the Voyageurs appeared to seal a road win as Brian Kavaratzis sailed a shot from 70 yards out up and over the Queen's keeper, with the final shrill of the referee's whistle pending.

Caught up in the excitement of their late goal, Laurentian were victimized by a quick strike Queen's attack, one which evened the contest at 3-3 in a span of 30 seconds, scoring almost directly from the ensuing resumption of play.

This marked the second time this year that Queen's and Laurentian had played to a tie, as the teams finished deadlocked at 2-2 the previous weekend in Sudbury.

Naturally, this sets the stage for an outstanding East Division quarter-final match, with the winner likely moving on to face the Carleton Ravens on Sunday in Ottawa.
