Development continues within the GSSC U10 ranks
2011-07-27

Another week of exciting U10 soccer action in the GSSC (Greater Sudbury Soccer Club) is now in the books as six local teams continue their summer development at a pair of venues.

Last Monday at Delki Dozzi, the GSSC Scorpions defeated the GSSC Lady Lightning 7-1, thanks to a balanced attack that would see seven different goal scorers find the back of the net for the Scorpions.

Luc Couture, Connor Brooks, Riley Meawasige, Josiah Sklar, Connor Trainor, Austin Pawluk and Jonathan Tullio tallied for the winners, while Taylor McCue answered for the young ladies.

Despite the loss, Lightning coach Giovanni Rocca was pleased with the effort put forth by his troops, noting the exceptional outings from both Jordan Heffern and Farah Abdu-Rabia on this particular night.

Over at Hanmer High, GSSC Powertel defeated GSSC Sudbury Rocks Girls 6-1, with Robert Krueger leading the way with a hat trick. Dario Beljo added a pair of goals, while Robert Castrechino scored once, completing the attack.

The Rocks Girls replied with Mackenzie Watkins as the young ladies were coming off a busy soccer weekend. The Rocks won the Grimsby tournament the previous day and played Powertel fairly even until the very end, when fatigue may have gotten the best of them.

A hard fought battle on Tuesday night resulted in the GSSC Bristol Stingers defeating the GSSC Voyageurs 1-0. Sean Roberts scored the only goal of the game and Chad Sweeney recorded the shutout.

For the Voyageurs, both Sebastien Bouchard and Justin Dauphinais were constant threats. Play in the six team league resumes, once again, this week.
