Valley East native Scott Cliff is not ready, quite yet, to close the curtain on his soccer career. On the heels of an extremely successful two year stint with the Laurentian Voyageurs, the talented keeper has become the first ever signee for the newly-formed Milltown Football Club of the Canadian Soccer League.
In the summer of 2009, Cliff would lead Forest City London of the Premier Development League of the USL to a third place finish in the Great Lakes Division in the club's first season of operation. As a member of the Voyageurs, Cliff was named 2008 OUA East MVP and also selected to the 2009 CIS 2nd All-Star team.
He was also honoured as the Laurentian Male Athlete of the Year following the 2008-09 campaign. A graduate of Confederation Secondary School, Cliff initially attended Oakland City University (Oakland City, Indiana) in his initial jump to the post-secondary ranks.
Cliff was identified by Milltown coaching staff at a series of open tryouts that took place last month, quickly making a name for himself. "I am a big believer that if you want to build a good team, you must always start with a good goalkeeper", said Milltown Director of Soccer Operations and Head Coach, Rafael Carbajal.
"Scott is a very good goalkeeper and has impressed me with his game management abilities. I also like his personality", added Carbajal. "He is very willing to work with our younger players. He has a lot of passion and commitment for the game and is planning to move to Milton to become involved in the community."
Milltown will open their 2010 schedule on May 15th with a road trip to Quebec, facing the Montreal Impact Academy. part of their 22 game CSL campaign that also sees the club facing the likes of Brantford, Toronto, St Catherines, Hamilton and London.
