More than 100 teams take part in Valley year end tournament
2007-08-22

More than 100 participating teams and almost 1700 soccer players taking to the fields - it was a very hectic weekend to say the least as the Valley East Soccer Club wrapped up the 2007 houseleague schedule with their traditional playoff weekend, complete with pizza and keepsake trophies for all of the young athletes.

Following is a divisional recap of the playoff tournament:

U-6 Girls

Kaitlyn Walker handled all of the scoring for Tim Horton's Red in a 4-1 win over Tim Horton's Grey in the U-6 Gold medal encounter. Melissa Benoit answered in a losing cause. The Bronze medal game also featured plenty of scoring as the Chocolate Dips edged the Toasted Coconuts 4-3.

Mackenzie Watkins recorded the hat-trick to pace the winners with Alexis Hill rounding out the scoring. Kaitlyn Chevrier netted a pair of goals for the Coconut crew with Mikayla Desrosiers adding a single.

U-6 Coed

Eric Frappier was a one-man wrecking crew, scoring no less than six goals as Tim Horton's Silver whipped Tim Horton's Sage 7-1 in the U-6 Coed championship game. Dawson Labelle netted the remaining Silver goal while Blake Harrigan managed to foil the shutout bid, scoring for Sage.

Much closer in the Bronze medal showdown as a hat-trick courtesy of Denis Olivier vaulted Tim Horton's Yellow to a 6-4 win over Tim Horton's Red. Zacharie Giroux, Samuel Saumure and Taylor Gadoury drilled one goal apiece for Yellow while Madison Laberge, with two goals, Tyler Rose and Blake Laforest replied for Team Red.

U-8 Girls

Editor's Note: We are trying to track down the U-8 Girls Gold medal scoresheet

In the U-8 Girls Bronze medal contest, Brooklyn Lavallee drilled the hat-trick and Katrina Proulx and Katey Kirkwood added solo markers as the R.V. Doctors blanked J.B. Jewellers 5-0.

U-8 Coed

Exactly the same score in the U-8 Coed championship final as Damien Giroux enjoyed a four goal outing to lead SudburySports.com to a 5-0 victory of their own over Bitter Bill's Ice Cream Parlour. Alexandre Baronette chalked up the final goal for the victors.

U-10 Girls

The U-10 Girls final came right down to the wire as Melissa P. scored twice, allowing Dr "B" and staff to squeak past Popcorn Video & Audio 2-1. Alyssa Menard registered the only goal in a losing cause. A four spot for Mikhayla Schneider provided all the offense that Photosonstuff.com would need as they nabbed third place with a 7-1 triumph over Consbec.

Katrina Trimmer, Karly Bertrand and Josee Emond each tallied once for the winners while Maggie Goggins replied for Consbec.

U-10 Coed

The Consbec boys avenged the girls loss as Carver Grenon scored three times, propelling Consbec to a 6-0 whitewash of Hanson Dentistry. Remaining Consbec goals came courtesy of Andrew Johnson, Kurtis Theobald and Daniel Walker.

The Hanmer Home Hardware squad secured Bronze, thanks to a 4-3 victory over the Valley East Kin Club. Tyson Morton scored twice with Gaetan McMillan and Zack Warner adding singles in the win while Scott Villeneuve (2) and Nicholas Desantis kept things close for the Kin Club.

U-12 Girls

A successful season came to a close for Dr M. Lazarcuic (Valley Dental Clinic) as the U-12 ladies blanked Dairy Queen 4-0 to take home top spot in their division. Melanie Belanger scored twice and Manon Emond and Crystal Godin added one goal apiece in the convincing win.

U-12 Coed

Eva Lanctot Realty made it a clean sweep in the U-12 Coed division, winning both the mid-season and year-end playoff tournaments. Two goal performances from Cooper Sbrega, Marc Leger and Brandon Kingsley combined with one goal from allowed Lanctot to thump the R.V. Doctors 7-1 in the final. Luc Seguin scored the only goal in a losing cause.

U-14 Girls

The first shootout of the day highlighted the U-14 Girls final as Sarah Hampton fired the game winning goal to push Lou's Shoe Repair past All State Insurance 1-0. Hampton also helped her own cause defensively, manning the net as keeper for Lou's Shoe Repair in the shootout.

U-14 Coed

Desjardins Food Basics and Jomik Interlock renewed an outstanding season-long rivalry in the U-14 Gold medal game, with the Desjardins clan avenging a mid-season tournament loss, besting Jomik 4-1 this time around. Cameron Desjardins scored twice for the winners, while Josh Harkins and Patrick Desmarais completed the Food Basics scoring parade. Giovanni Foschia picked up the only Jomik goal on the afternoon.

U-18 Girls

One of the most tightly contested divisions remained true to form in the playoffs as Roxx Seguin was the goal scoring hero in a 1-0 Eva Lanctot Realty win over Valley Plaza Barber.

U-18 Coed

After winning their semi-final matchup with a dramatic overtime goal, the Desjardins Food Basics U-18 Mixed squad proved to be no match for Atisan Arctic, falling 6-0 in the final. Remi Doiron and Brandon Labelle each enjoyed three-goal outings in the lopsided win.

Under 25

Scoring was at a premium in the Under 25 Gold medal encounter as only Lee Ann Leroux would manage to solve either goaltender, giving Desjardins Caisse Populaire the championship with a 1-0 win over Desjardins Food Basics.

Older Adults

Andrew Brunette proved to have an equally proficient scoring touch on the pitch as on the ice, scoring once as the Valley East Lions edged Pizza Gallery 2-1 in the final game of the day. Dale Dubreuil provided the second Lions goal while Marc Philippe replied in a losing cause for the Pizza Gallery side.
