Wolves set aside the six-seven fad in favour of 4-3 games
2026-11-02

Perhaps this is exactly who the 2026-2027 Sudbury Wolves really are.

A pair of 4-3 encounters over the weekend would mean that four of the Wolves past five games have been decided by just one goal, with the remaining outing a two-goal affair.

The good news is that Sudbury has three wins to show for these efforts, including a big 4-3 overtime win over the London Knights Friday night that was followed by a 4-3 loss on Sunday at home to the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies.

Vladimir Provorov wired home the game-winner against the Knights at 2:44 of period four after the homeside jumped out to a 2-0 lead, saw the Knights rally to move ahead 3-2 before forcing OT thanks to a Mason Walker goal with under two minutes to play.

Walker opened the scoring on the power play, netting the only tally of the opening twenty minutes, with Adam Nemec doubling the advantage midway through the second.

London tied the game up at 2-2 with a pair of snipes in the final two minutes of the middle stanza as both Marcus Nordmark and Thomas Zocco solved Wolves' goaltender Paolo Frasca.

Jaxon Cover netted a power play goal in the third but Sudbury countered late as Walker took a back-door feed from Luca Blonda, deadlocking the game at 3-3.

The Sunday inter-league match opened with plenty of scoring as Sudbury forwards Blake Clayton and Jean-Cristoph Lemieux traded goals with Eliot Ogonowski and Cole Renaud of the Huskies, all in the first twenty minutes of play.

Jan Chovan struck on the power play to give Sudbury a 3-2 lead but Andreas Straka got that one back in the final minute of the middle stanza for the visitors.

An untimely penalty again came back to haunt the Wolves as the Huskies capitalized on their five on four, with Samuel Beauchemin pulling the trigger for the win.

The local juniors continue to occupy top spot in the Central Division with a record of 10-4-1-0, five points ahead of the Niagara Ice Dogs.

The Wolves will play four games in a seven day span beginning with a trip south on Wednesday to face the Barrie Colts. The team is then home for tilts on both Friday (vs Soo Greyhounds) and Sunday afternoon (vs the Colts) before hosting the Hounds for a second time in short order in their first ever "schoolday" game Tuesday morning (Nov 10th) at 10:30 a.m.
