Originally created with the intent of providing a more economical quasi-tournament format for competitive girls hockey teams in northern Ontario, the Northern Cup is returning to Sudbury.

The U11 AA Lady Wolves overcame an opening game loss to the Thunder Bay Queens (4-2), earning a measure of revenge in the final thanks to a 1-0 overtime thriller.

Taking a three on three feed from linemate Aria Mallette, Adalyn Groleau buried the game-winning goal, gifting Sudbury netminder Clara Haapamaki both the win and the shutout between the pipes.

The Sudbury girls followed up the loss to the Queens by getting the better of the Kapuskasing Jaguars, Temiskaming Puckhounds and Timmins Falcons, setting up a rematch with the Thunder Bay entry.

With their team credo focused around the words "relentless - positive - together" - all of which apply to this group, the U11 AA Lady Wolves will continue now with Nickel District Minor Hockey League action with the boys, preparing for an OWHA tournament in Whitby in early December.

The balance of the roster features Dallas Pellow, Mikayla Bondy, Mia Nolin, Kenzie Mussen, Lucy Mussen, Ariana Bignucolo, Lily Blier, Cassie Miller, Chloe Patrick, Emily Chenard, Ainsley Anderson, Shaeya Morrison and goaltender Chanel Faubert, who also recorded a shutout at the event that was contested in Smooth Rock Falls.

The team staff is comprised of head coach Jason Chenard, assistant coaches Ryan Mussen and Mireille MacDonald, trainer Erin Morrison, manager Stef Mussen, goalie coaches Jamie Tessier and Adam Groleau and assistant managers (Den Moms) Miranda Blier and Michelle Faubert.

This marks the third different team that has laid claim to the Northern Cup since the competition was first introduced last year.
