Well-balanced clashes in the offing for junior HS football fans

Week four of the SDSSAA (Sudbury District Secondary Schools' Athletic Association) junior football season is filled with competitive showdowns, with none better than the Thursday night matchup of the St Charles College Cardinals and the Confederation Chargers at 7:30 p.m. at the James Jerome Sports Complex, with both teams now sitting at 3-0.

Though that is the marquee encounter, the two proceeding games also offer plenty of intrigue as the winless Lasalle Lancers and St Benedict Bears do battle at 3:00 p.m. while the Lively Hawks (2-1) and the Lo-Ellen Park Knights (1-2) go toe to toe at 5:15 p.m.

St Charles opened the week three schedule with a 61-0 trouncing of the St Benedict Bears, with Noah Arsenault (3 TDs) leading the charge. Teammates who also safely reached the end zone included Mavrick Parker, Connor Paris, Nigel Romero, Koda Peltier, Nolan Larche and Emmanuel Appiah-Hagan, with the latter also chipping in with 6 converts and a single.

Lively broke the 40-point plateau for the second time in three games, outscoring Lasalle 49-21 as Jones Paajanen and Logan Tait recorded two touchdowns apiece. Solo TD efforts came courtesy of Reid Bentley, Carter MacLennan and Connor Timmers, with Kade Naponse a perfect 7/7 on his conversion attempts.

Responding for the Lancers were Nick Rice (2 TDs), Carter Hill (3 X PATs) and Zayden Contois (TD).

Finally, Confederation kept pace with SCC thanks to a 20-8 win over Lo-Ellen as Marshal Lepage accounted for all three majors for the winners. Camden Nadeau (2 X PATs) joined him on the scoresheet while an unconverted TD from Angus Rayburn and a safety touch combined to put eight points on the board for the Knights.
