Two weeks into the SDSSAA (Sudbury District Secondary Schools' Athletic Association) and it is the St Charles College Cardinals and Confederation Chargers who remain unbeaten at 2-0 - with SCC in search of their first junior banner since 2022 and Confederation going all the way back to 1974 to find their last title.

Thursday afternoon at the James Jerome Sports Complex, the Cardinals ran all over the Lasalle Lancers, with returning QB Brody Lepage at the helm.

“I started as a receiver (playing two years of Joe MacDonald Youth Football), but my friends told me to tryout at QB,” said Lepage. It certainly wasn’t as though the concepts were going to be foreign to him. “At school, I would always play football at recess and always throw the ball around at camp.”

Which, as any experienced quarterback will suggest, still represents only one very small piece of the puzzle that would allow any given pivot the chance to be successful. “In a game, you can’t see as much,” said Lepage. “It’s harder to see the field and scan it.”

“But if you know the routes and know where your players will be, then it won’t be too bad.”

Lepage accounted for one of seven touchdowns St Charles would score on Thursday, with Gaddiel Appiah-Hagan and Trent Maskevich adding two majors apiece and Ryker LeRoy and Mofe Olusola-Kuteyi capping things off.

Appiah-Hagan also made good on six convert attempts while Barend Esoinoza put the points on the board for the Lancers, making his way to the end zone in the final quarter of play.

Confederation also looked impressive in extending their winning streak to two games with a 41-26 triumph over the Lively Hawks. Marshal Lepage reached the house on three occasions, Bentley Dhinel made it twice and Avery Gudrie also posted a TD to his stat-line with Camden Nadeau splitting the uprights five times with successful PATs.

Avery MacKinnon (2 TDs), Reid Bentley (TD + PAT), Logan Tait (TD) and Reid Ungar (PAT) found themselves on the scoresheet for Lively by game's end.

In a battle of two teams who found themselves on the wrong side of the scoreboard in week one, the Lo-Ellen Park Knights managed to even their record at 1-1 thanks to a 21-13 victory over the St Benedict Bears.

Lo-Ellen touchdowns came courtesy of Angus Rayburn (2) and Jack Hodder as the Knights turned to three different kickers for their troika of conversions: Tristan Dagostino, Ty Clark and Jack Hodder.

Emmanuel George remains the only junior Bear to cross the goal-line this fall, doing it twice versus LEP as Christian Perez Diaz closed the book for the Knights offense with his PAT.
