Building chemistry quite quickly, Team North posted a more than respectable 2-2 record at the 2026 Ontario Summer Games in Kitchener-Waterloo as head coach Mark Caruso guided a crew of fellow Sault Ste Marie representatives with a healthy mix of Sudbury Voyageurs and a quartet from Thunder Bay.

With Nathan Omeljaniuk tossing three and a third innings of scoreless ball, the North piled on enough runs early to open the tournament with a 13-11 win over the Southern Counties Baseball Association (Hamilton Wentworth down to Lake Erie).

Omeljaniuk, Sudbury teammate Olivier Seguin and the Sault Ste Marie tandem of Gregory Beckerson and Devon Grbich poked out two hits apiece, with Adam Kustra (Thunder Bay) driving in three for the winners.

A second inning meltdown proved costly in game two as the northern lads caught not overcome the Hamilton District Baseball Association outburst, dropping a 15-5 decision as Jakson Carroll (2 RBIs - Sault Ste Marie) and Adam Kustra (2 hits) enjoyed the most success at the plate in a losing cause.

Facing the eventual silver medal winners in game three, Team North put together a bottom of first inning rally thanks to a single from Olivier Seguin, a double from Nathan Omeljaniuk and a single from Liam Stephens (Sudbury Voyageurs - Little Current), but could not build on that momentum as York Simcoe Baseball Association rolled to a 15-4 win.

With a chance to hit the .500 mark on the line, Team North overcame an early six run deficit, clipping Niagara District Baseball Association 10-8 as Nathan Omeljaniuk pitched to a second victory on the mound. The right-handed starter was nothing if not resilient, going the distance for the win on the mound.

Trailing 8-7 entering the bottom of the sixth, coach Caruso and company struck for three as Merrick Sokoloski (Sudbury Voyageurs - Espanola) singled, scoring two, and came across with an insurance run courtesy of an RBI double from Omeljaniuk.

Olivier Seguin and Gregory Beckerson both enjoyed a double-double, recording two hits and two RBIs each. "The dedication of the families and the generosity of our sponsors made this a memorable, life-long experience for these young athletes and our staff," said coach Caruso.

Rounding out the Team North roster were Adrien Cecchetto (Sudbury Voyageurs - Sudbury), Brenan Gusola (Thunder Bay), Bryce Perrott (Sault Ste Marie), Erik Binette (Thunder Bay), Nicholas Paquette (Sudbury Voyageurs - Hanmer), Franky Finamore (Sudbury Voyageurs - Hanmer), Braedyn Farrow (Thunder Bay), Dakota Del Papa (Sudbury Voyageurs - Capreol) and coaches Jayve Prgomet and Colton Read.
