An opening game 7-7 tie with the Nepean Knights was the only blip on the radar for the Sudbury U22 Rockhounds last weekend as the locals recorded four consecutive victories following the game one draw, earning gold at the Gloucester Ray Broadworth Memorial Tournament.

Sudbury rallied from a 6-4 deficit after two periods of play versus Nepean to equalize matters in the third as Malik Jakubo paced the attack with a two goal effort, with Braeden Thibault, Aleksander Duguay, Jake Sudsbury, Matteo Di Ciccio and Xavier Esquimaux-Osawamick all potting one marker apiece.

Tied 1-1 at the end of one period of play in game two, the Rockhounds finally hit their stride, pulling away from the Clarington Gaels and chalking up an 8-2 win as Jacob Barney netted the hat trick to show the way for the nickel city lads.

Aleksander Duguay chipped in with a two-goal effort with Jake Sudsbury, Malik Jakubo and Kai D'Amour closing out the scoring parade for the winners.

Game three featured an offensive explosion that was excessively well balanced as the 22 Rockhounds scored four goals in each and every period, doubling the Kahnawake Mohawks 12-6.

Jacob Barney (3), Jake Sudsbury (2) and Aleksander Duguay (2) were at the forefront of the scoresheet once again, accounting for more than half of the Sudbury scoring as Cody Wahl (2), Noah Larcher, Matteo Di Ciccio and Rylin Elijah capped things off.

A rematch against Nepean in the semi-finals proved most fruitful to the Rockhounds, crowning the Knights 8-5 as Alex Hachez and Malik Jakubo each enjoyed a two goal performance. Also finding the back of the net for coach Mike Miron were Ashton Eadie, Noah Larcher, Jake Sudsbury and Jacob Barney.

The championship tilt was even more lopsided as the Rockhounds steamrolled the Clarington Gaels 7-1 as seven different players scored for Sudbury while netminder Crawford Wiebe continued to improve with every passing game under the tutelage of coach Miron and former Rockhounds goalie Mason Robertson (now with the St Catharines Athletics Junior "A" team).

Hitting the mark once each for the gold medal winning team were Braeden Thibault, Kai D'Amour, Alex Hachez, Malik Jakubo, Matteo Di Ciccio, Cody Wahl and Tucker Johnson.

Rounding out the Rockhounds' roster are Ryder McKee, Brenden Force, Liam Ramalho and Luca Di Ciccio.
