A few years from now, perhaps a small handful of very devoted Sudbury Wolves' fans will be able to look back on the weekend of June 20th & 21st (2026) and suggest that they knew right from the get-go that the chemistry between OHL veterans and linemates Brayden Bennett and Kash Kwajah would lead to great things.
If nothing else, the youngsters who stole the show in the scrimmage portion of the Orientation Camp on Sunday morning certainly allowed those in attendance to let their minds wander of what might come to be.
Sharing the ice with the Wolves' first round pick from 2025 (Bennett), the 15 year-old son of a Ghanaian father who was selected fifth overall just a few weeks ago at the 2026 OHL draft in Kingston focused on just what one might expect from an introspective young man on his first taste of hockey in a Wolves uniform.
"You can always control your effort," said Kwajah, a 6'0" forward who racked up 63 points in 31 games with the Toronto U16 "AAA" Jr Canadiens this past winter. "You can't always control the puck bounces and stuff like that."
Fortunately, the puck was bouncing his way most of the time in this outing as both Kwajah and Bennett recorded a goal and an assist, helping to lead Team White to a 4-1 win over Team Blue.
Cole Krottner (4th rd - 2026) and Luca Kettles (2nd rd - U18 draft - 2025) rounded out the scoring for the winners while Luke Bouchard (14th rd - 2025) countered with the only goal in a losing cause.
Part of the TJC squad that was beaten 3-1 in the championship final of the 2026 OHL Cup by Detroit HoneyBaked, Kwajah shared his thoughts on what he was most pleased with regarding his 2025-2026 U16 "AAA" season in the GTHL.
"We didn't always come out with the best results, but the process of working through how we got closer together, even with guys that were hurt, that was good," said Kwajah. "We were good at the end of the year."
Where speculation runs rampant during draft year in and around the Ontario U16 "AAA" hockey circuit, Kwajah suggested it wasn't until well into June that he felt far more comfortable with his likely destination.
"Some guys knew early but I honestly tried not to think about it too much," he said. "But by that week (week of June 12th-13th), I had a feeling that Sudbury would take me. So far, it's been great; the people here are lovely."
The Wolves inked four of their prospects coming out of the weekend, including 6'4" defenseman Ivan Belikov, a second round pick in the 2026 draft who hails from Parkland, Florida.
Joining the young blueliner in putting pen to paper were Patrik Ula (F - 7th rd - 2025), Norman Greene (F - 10th rd - 2025) and Colton Colby (F - 11th rd - 2025).
