Many a local sports team have suggested the need to try and get better, even in small increments, each and every day.
Veering off slightly from an age-old adage, the GSBA (Greater Sudbury Basketball Association) U16 Storm girls basketball team put their heart and soul behind those words, focused on playing their very best at the end of the season.
An 11-game winning streak that closed out the 2025-2026 culminated with a gold medal performance at the Division 5 Ontario Cup playdowns earlier this month.
With the trio of Kyra Lefebvre, Sophie Roy and Evie Drozdowsky all averaging in and around ten points per game, the Sudbury girls posted wins against the Thunder Bay Thunder (38-27), the Ancaster Blitz - "B" (45-33) and Naismith Basketball from Lanark County (44-22), booking their berth in the final.
Clinging to a one point lead (19-18) at the half of their final game of the season, the Storm leaned heavily upon the defensive prowess of Asyah Dockery, Allyson Ouimet and Sophie Loiselle as well as the non-stop hustle of Clara Coulas, Megane Dillon, Kennedy Nelles and Nahla Abdinasir, pulling away for a 48-30 victory over the Ancaster Blitz - "A" team.
The Sudbury squad was coached this year by Ghislain Roy.
