Some outstanding starting pitching and offensive contributions right across the lineup made all the difference in the world as the Sudbury 14U Voyageurs recorded a three-game sweep, at home, of the Pickering Prospects last weekend.
The three Sudbury starters piled up 12 innings of work and allowed just two runs against, limiting the Prospects to seven hits and striking out 11 Pickering batsmen.
The 14U Voyageurs wasted little time systematically dismantling the visitors, building p a 6-0 lead after six innings of game one on route to an 8-2 win as Merrick Legault starred both on the mound (3IP - 4 hits; 0 runs; six Ks) as well as at the plate (2/3 with a walk and three runs scored).
Merrik Sokoloski also enjoyed a multi-hit game which included a triple and Jace Peters belted out a two-run double.
The most impressive pitching performance of the weekend came in game two as Jett Beroll had himself an outing: six innings of one-hit ball with just one run scored as Tom Davies mopped up the final inning of a 6-1 victory.
Dakota Del Papa and Keaton Borne punched out two hits apiece, with Del Papa also adding a pair of RBIs to his stat line.
The closest of the three games, Sudbury scored twice in the bottom of the fifth and final inning of game three, completing their 3-0 set with a 7-6 win as seven different Voyageurs crossed the plate.
Merrik Sokoloski got the start and held Pickering to two runs over three innings pitched but it was Colby Roque who earned the win, allowing one run in one and a third innings.
Merrik Legault and Keaton Borne accounted for four of the Voyageurs ten hits - split evenly between them - and Olivier Projean smacked a two-run single to lead his team in runs batted in.
Rounding out the Sudbury 14U Voyageurs roster are Demitri Henri, Cole Ginson, Cole Gauthier, Cam Roy and Leif Keresztesi as the northern crew complete their home and home with Pickering, making the trip south this weekend.
