Will Burns blanks Pickering Prospects over five for the win
2026-05-16

Game 1 pitcher Will Burns set the tone last weekend as the Sudbury 18U Voyageurs took to the road for a three game set with the Pickering Prospects.

Keeping the hometown batsmen in check with five scoreless innings of four-hit ball, Burns fueled a 7-2 Sudbury victory last Saturday; and while the team played decently enough through the remainder of the weekend, that would be their one and only win in the series.

Striking out five, Burns gave way to Hudson Fletcher who mopped up the final two innings as Brett Rienguette drove in a pair of runs to help lead the offense, with Chris St Germain crossing the plate twice.

Sudbury pitchers A.J. Dubeau, Braiden Paul and Evan Ouimet helped keep game two close as Pickering defeated the Voyageurs 5-3, with the latter able to muster only five hits in total, including a pair from Ethan Thompson.

And when the bats got going in game three, the pitchers could not hold the fort as the Prospects rallied for an 8-7 win, scoring twice in the bottom of the sixth inning to seize the moment.

Brody Mabbott (2 hits; 2 runs; RBI), Braiden Paul (2 hits; RBI; double) and Evan Ouimet (2 walks; 2 RBIs) sparked the Voyageurs offense as the visitors overcame a 3-0 deficit, scoring six runs in the top of five, but unable to close things off in the rubber match.

The 18U lads will enjoy the long weekend off, hosting the London Badgers on May 23rd/24th at the Terry Fox Sports Complex and travelling to southeastern Ontario to face the Kingston Ponies on May 30th and 31st.
