The Sudbury 13U Voyageurs wasted little time proving they can compete in the PBLO (Premier Baseball League of Ontario).
They will, however, have to wait at least one more weekend before laying claim to their first PBLO victory.
For as much as they kept things close in all four games on the road with the Pickering Prospects, and very, very close in three of those four outings, none resulted in the "W" column moving from zero to one.
The heartbreaker of the lot came in the opener as the Voyageurs squandered a 6-1 lead and an outstanding pitching performance from starter Max Gould (three innings of scoreless one-hit ball with five strikeouts), surrendering six runs in the bottom of the sixth and losing 7-6 to Pickering.
Interestingly enough, the Sudbury youngsters posted a six run inning of their own (top of five), with Brady Ceasar slapping out a pair of hits in a losing cause.
The northern squad pounded out 15 hits in game two but still came up a little short, beaten 9-6 as Max Gould (2 hits + 2 runs) and Tristan Williamson (2 hits + 2 RBIs) leading the Voyageurs' attack.
Nathan Serafini, Trent Morris, Milo MacMillan and Brady Ceasar all enjoyed multi-hit games, along with their teammates noted above.
Yet another nail-biter in game three as Pickering squeaked past Sudbury 7-6, with Reid Pitre (2 hits + 2 RBIs), Brady Ceasar (solo HR) and Trent Morris (2 hits) among the key contributors at the plate for the representatives from the nickel city.
A 10-4 scoreboard was the worse of the four-game set for the Sudbury lads as Brady Ceasar (hit + 2 RBIs) and Oscar Liang (one scoreless inning pitched with one hit and one strikeout) among the highlights for the 13U Vees.
The balance of the Sudbury 13U Voyageurs roster this year features Ava Tonnos, Blake Walton, Caleb Seguin, Leaf Eadie and Rory McDavid.
