The Sudbury U18 Voyageurs came out "guns 'a blazing" at the plate last weekend, kickoff off their summer of PBLO (Premier Baseball League of Ontario) action with a three game set at the Terry Fox Sports Complex opposite the Ontario Yankees.
Unfortunately, it looks like they then ran out of ammunition, offensively-speaking, in their final two outings.
A 24 hit barrage paved the way to a 17-16 walk-off win on Saturday in game one as eight of the ten batters that the Voyageurs would send to the plate finished with multi-hit games.
The most impressive stat lines came courtesy of Ethan Thompson (4/4 - 4 runs; 3 RBIs), Braiden Paul (3/5 - 3 runs; 2 RBIs), Brett Rienguette (3/5 - 2 runs; 2 RBIs), King Mong (3/4 - 2 runs; 3 RBIs), Chris St Germain (2/3 - run + 3 RBIs) and Chris Kremastiotis (3/3 - run + 2 RBIs).
The Sudbury U18 lads scored nine runs in the fourth inning, leading the contest 15-8 at the time but needed to plate a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to secure their victory.
The extended opening encounter would cause game two to be limited to just five innings as the Yankees doubled the Voyageurs 8-4, with all but one run plated in the opening inning.
Coming on in relief, the Sudbury trio of A.J. Dubeau, Evan Ouimet and Braiden Paul limited the Yankees to just one run over the final four innings - though the bats for the locals went silent at exactly the same time.
Braiden Paul helped his cause at the plate, smacking a pair of hits, including a double, and driving in two runs as well.
The homeside could muster only four hits over seven innings on Sunday as Sudbury dropped an 11-1 decision, with little to note in terms of Voyageurs highlights as a pair of Yankees' hurlers struck out nine and walked only two.
Rounding out the Sudbury U18 roster this year are Brody Mabbott, Chase Taylor, Colton Nowoselsky, Desmond Gauthier, Hudson Fletcher, Johnny O'Reilly, Landen Creasey, Lucas Holmes, Will Burns, Konner Chartier and Teo Landry.
