Star-studded Class of 2026 to be inducted on June 10th

Olympic magic and coaching flair unite all of this year’s inductees into the Greater Sudbury Sports Hall of Fame.

The selection committee has announced the six individuals, one posthumous inductee and the Norm Mayer Dynasty Award inductees who will be feted as the Class of 2026 on Wednesday, June 10, 2026. The gala will be held at the Caruso Club. The Hall of Fame will also feature the annual Sportsperson of the Year and the Bill Roman Administration awards to be announced in the coming week.

The 2026 class of inductees:

Denis Vachon (Gymnastics): of Azilda is a seven-time national champion and a four-time World Team medallist in tumbling and double mini-trampoline. After retiring, he turned to coaching and was named a coach to the Tokyo Olympics in 2021. He was the deputy manager, artistic gymnastics and trampoline, with the Paris 2024 Olympic organizing committee

Tracy Fleury (Curling): the 2025 Sudbury sportsperson of the year is the 2024 and 2025 world curling and Scotties Tournament of Hearts champion. In February, she won an Olympic bronze medal at the Milano Cortina Games with Team (Rachel) Homan. Prior to joining Team Homan at vice/third, she skipped teams across Canada

Caroline Ehrhardt (Track and Field): grew up in Espanola and is a 10-time national champion in women’s triple jump and current Canadian record holder. In 2015 she became the first Canadian woman to triple jump over 14 metres outdoors. In 2025 she became the head coach of Western’s track and field teams. In 2026, she was named U Sports men’s head coach of the year after Western men’s team won their second consecutive U Sports title

Peter Michelutti Sr (Hockey): has been involved with the Sudbury Silver Stick Tournament for over 40 years, including the last 20 as chair. A former part-owner of the Sudbury Wolves, he has also coached for more than 30 years, with his time split between minor hockey and Cambrian College where he was an assistant coach when the Shield won the Canadian men’s college hockey championships in 1997

Denis Gauthier (Basketball): the lead assistant coach with Sudbury Five in their 2024-25 championship year, Gauthier has over 33 years of coaching experience. He has been the head coach of 17 SDSSAA championship teams and claimed 12 NOSSA championship banners. He won the OFSAA Coaching Excellence recipient in 2017. He currently is an assistant coach with the Rolling Thunder Wheelchair basketball team

Mike Miron (Lacrosse): born and bred in Capreol, Miron played seven years in the National Lacrosse League and was an all-star in 2005 with the Arizona Sting. After picking up a lacrosse stick at age 17 in Whitby, he was selected in first round of 2002 NLL draft (17th overall) by the Columbus Landsharks. He returned to Sudbury in 2018-19 and coached the U22 Rockhounds to three OLA championships (2022-2024) in their respective divisions.

Brad Rienguette (Fastball): (posthumous award winner) was a pitcher with two World Championship fastball teams, including the St Catharines Juniors in 1979. A nine-time provincial champion (four with Garson – also with Owen Sound), he played on teams across Ontario and then joined professional squads to play in Alberta, Vancouver, Newfoundland, Saginaw and Flint, Tulsa and Wisconsin. He passed away in 2009 at the age of 50

Norm Mayer Dynasty Award: St Charles College Football Cardinals – have captured over 20 senior football banners (Copper Cliff Jewellers Trophy) and 15 junior football titles (Birks – Ellis – Ryrie Cup). The 1969 St. Charles Cardinals are also the last SDSSAA (Sudbury high school) team to win a senior boys football championship

The 55th Annual Sudbury Sports Hall of Fame Dinner will take place on Wednesday, June 10, 2026 in the upstairs hall of the Caruso Club.
