It has been a little while since the Sudbury Laurels produced a performance at provincials deemed worthy of being mentioned in the same conversation with some of the greatest years that the well-established local gymnastics club has ever known.

The 2026 Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (WAG) Level 6-10 Ontario Championships fit the bill.

Led by all-around Level 7 Age 11-12 silver medal winner Gracie Currie, the small but talented local contingent enjoyed a great deal of success across the board, both in terms of podium placements but also in those softer areas where simply competing at a truly elite level and performing to one's current potential is reason galore to celebrate.

Ranked third in the province in her grouping of 60 athletes entering the meet, Gracie Currie elevated one more spot on the strength of a gold medal performance on the floor (9.60) and top ten placements on the vault (4th), bars (5th) and beam (8th).

Her overall score of 37.700 was best among the 29 competitors in the "B" section and second only to Lauren Fredrich (Niagara Acro Cats - 38.200) when one also factors in the other 26 girls in the "A" pack.

With this placement, Currie earned herself a spot on the Team Ontario squad that will compete at the 2026 Eastern Canadian Gymnastics Championships in Fredericton (New Brunswick) from May 15th to the 17th.

Despite making the leap this year from Level 4 to Level 6 (age 12-14), Bria Recoskie capped off a remarkable season of progress, finishing second all-around in the "B" division (37.830) with a first place finish on beam (9.650) and fourth in bars - which included a special award for shape and swing.

"It is hard to put into words just how far she has come in just one season," noted the Laurels' coaching staff on their Instagram page. "Not only did she work to gain the skills required for this jump, but to rise all the way to the top of this level in the province is nothing short of incredible."

Quiet by nature, Klara Martic allowed her performance to speak volumes in Belleville, placing second on the vault and fourth all-around (37.783), narrowly missing out on third in the same classification (Level 6 - age 12-14) as Recoskie.

"When it matters most, Klara is confident, determined and aggressive," noted the Laurels. "She puts her head down and works hard. She crushed provincials."

Finally, the trailblazer of the current group of elite Laurels' gymnasts earned a pair of top ten rankings within the Level 9 Age 15+ A pool of 27 athletes thanks to a fourth place showing on the floor (9.033) and 10th on the vault (8.983).

"Avery is at a stage in her gymnastics journey where the focus has shifted to pushing for greater difficulty, refining her skills, expanding her artistry and continuing to stretch the limits of what she is capable of."
