A 3-0 loss to the Lambton Central Collegiate & Vocational Institute Lancers not only snapped a three game winning streak for the St Charles College Cardinals girls at the 2026 OFSAA A/AA Girls Hockey Championships in Cobourg, but also eliminated the NOSSA champs in the round of eight.
The Cardinals could not have asked for a much better performance in pool play, opening their tournament up with a 5-0 whitewashing of the St Joseph's CSS Panthers from Cornwall as Brooklyn Harris scored twice and goaltender Kloe Rienguette posted the shutout.
Karlie Shea, Jenna Cole and Joely Angus rounded out the scoring as the St Charles girls carried some momentum into their second game of the tournament. Carrington Parise and Jenna Cole scored in the second period and Avery Mininni drilled home what would stand as the game-winner as the Cards edged St Thomas Aquinas High-School Saints from Kenora 3-2, improving to 2-0.
It was back to the goose-eggs for game three as Kloe Rienguette registered her second shutout in as many days in a 3-0 St Charles triumph over the Crestwood Prepatory College Lions. Grade nine sniper Alyssa Bryant potted a pair of goals for the winners, with Joely Angus getting the other.
There would be no "others" in game four as Mya Thorne broke the ice for Lambton late in the first period and Olivia Minten converted on the power play in the second as the Lancers moved on to the semis, eventually settling for antique bronze.
The remaining SDSSAA hockey team to participate in OFSAA this spring did not fare as well as the Lo-Ellen Park Knights lost three straight in Lasalle (near Windsor) at the 2026 OFSAA "AAA" Boys Hockey Championships.
Swamped in their opening tilt, the Knights trailed 3-0 just six minutes in as the Neil McNeil Maroons from Scarborough doubled Lo-Ellen 6-3, with Jacob Lamoureux, Jayden Ceming and Matthew Trottier handling the scoring for the crew which bounced SCC in the city final.
Facing the #1 seed in game two, the Knights (seeded 12th of 16) fell 4-1 to the Brooklin High-School Bears in an entertaining affair that saw Jayden Ceming snipe his second of the event as Lo-Ellen trailed by a score of just 2-1 entering the third period of play.
While the scoring returned for game three, so too did the challenges of keeping the puck out of their own net as the Cobourg Collegiate Institute Wolves stopped the Sudbury lads 7-3, with Noah Lafrance, Jayden Ceming and Jeremy Thall all hitting the scoresheet in a losing cause.
Ethan McGregor and Oliver Coyle light the lamp twice each for Cobourg.
