Team NOHA returns home from OHL Cup with a win in hand
2026-04-03

Posting a win in their final game of the tournament, Team NOHA finished the 2026 OHL Cup with a record of 1-3-0, placing four in their pool of five teams this past week in Toronto.

The northern lads opened with a tough one, beaten 5-2 by a Vaughan Kings team that had already dropped their opening game to the Quinte Red Devils and which blew open a tight 2-1 affair with three straight goals in the third.

Brayden Baronette and Alex Proulx handled the scoring for Team NOHA while Kane Cloutier (2G / 2A) and Evan Fitzgerald (2G + A) were front and centre offensively for Vaughan.

Sault Ste Marie native Cole Guizzetti potted three goals and a helper as his Upper Canada College Blues downed his long-time NOHA playing mates 4-1 in game two, with Tayden Smith answering in a losing cause for head coach Peter Michelutti Jr.

Looking for the upset, Team NOHA came up just short in a 4-3 loss to Quinte as Ty Belanger, Nicholas Christakos and Seth Verbiwski all managed to beat Red Devils' netminder Nathan Ferriss.

Closing out on a positive note, the team that welcomed an influx of Sudbury U16 AAA Wolves to the fold tripled the Brantford 99ers 3-1 as Logan Watson, Felix Sapay and Bryson Palahnuk all hit the mark for the winners.

The 2026 OHL Cup final is set to take place Saturday at 2:00 p.m. as Detroit Honeybaked does battle with the Toronto Jr Canadiens after TJC edged Upper Canada 3-2 in the semis.

Khov Long, younger brother to the Sudbury Cubs tandem of Kaedyn and Briir Long, opened the scoring in that SF affair for the Canadiens, scoring twice and adding a pair of assists in the tournament to date.
