A few weeks back, the Northern Credit Union Community Centre (NCUCC) served as host club as 32 teams attended the 2026 Sudbury Masters Bonspiel – including entries from Timmins, New Liskeard, North Bay Deep River, and a couple of curlers from Hawkesbury.
In search of a three-peat, the Marcel Miron foursome were taken out in the semi-finals by Team Leo Buckley from Blind River, a former Ontario Masters Championship squad. In the finals, however, it was local skip Bruce Munro guiding his entry of Scott Thom (vice), Doug Hong (second), Al Harnden (lead) and Duncan Bell (fifth) to the title in a well-contested affair.
Taking first event bragging rights was Team Bigras (Lloyd Bigras; Ray Joanisse; Rick Fortier; Mike Eles), with Team Pilling (Faye Pilling; Rose Darrach; Cindy Lamarche; Angie MacDonald) doing likewise in the second event. The third event hardware, to wrap things up, was presented to Team Hamilton from Elliot Lake (Jesse Hamilton; Ralph Coventry; Al Cormier; Dave Matherson).
A weekend highlight, beyond the great shots and laughter, came in the form of a rare “end ender” as Team Pajuluoma (Ron Pajuluoma; Dan Sanche; Dan Battison; Brent Langille) turned the trick – marking only the second time this feat has happened in the 23 year history of the Sudbury Masters.
