The SDGHA (Sudbury District Girls Hockey Association) family just keeps growing - and adding new layers of success, apparently.

Icing a U22 houseleague team for the very first time (at least as well as anyone can recall), the Sudbury U22 HL Lady Wolves recently captured the Stoney Creek Sweetheart Tournament, all while surrendering just three goals against.

The work required to try and attract and assemble enough female hockey talent at a time when many are super busy with their post-secondary studies and part-time work commitments might have been almost the equal to the on-ice effort that allowed the local girls to return north with gold medals.

After posting a record of 1-2-0 in their first tournament of the year in November, the U22 HL Lady Wolves got things rolling in a positive direction in Stoney Creek right out of the gate, blanking the Lakeshore Lightning 1-0 in their opening encounter as Keira Garratt recorded the shutout.

Netminder Kara Benton followed directly in those footsteps in game two as Sudbury posted a 3-0 whitewashing of the host Stoney Creek Sabres (Green) before the offense really kicked into high gear for game three.

Two goal efforts from Sarah McCann, Serenity Couillard and Marin Wilson pushed the Lady Wolves to a 7-2 win over the Windsor Wildcats, securing first place in Pool A for the northern entry.

A 3-1 triumph over the Southpoint Stars in the semi-finals prompted a second matchup with the Stoney Creek Sabres, though it was the Gold version that would do battle with Sudbury in the final.

No matter as Serenity Couillard lit the lamp on three occasions and Natalie Kerr and Carissa McInnes chipped in with one goal apiece as the Lady Wolves looked more than solid with a 5-1 scoreboard in their favour.

Rounding out the Sudbury roster are Estelle Larouche, Destiny Davis-Carriere, Mackenzie St-Germain, Morgan Knight Brianne Schwartz, Delaney Williams, Izabel Courville and head coach and manager Jean-Luc Larouche.
