The GSBA (Greater Sudbury Basketball Association) U13 Storm Boys are clearly beginning to hit their stride.
Dropping their first two games of the year in OBL (Ontario Basketball League) play, the team have displayed pretty much continual improvement, their biggest breakthrough coming in mid-December.
The Storm lads not only handed the Ancaster Magic (5-1) their only setback prior to the post-Christmas re-ranks, but did so by overcoming an 18-point half-time deficit (38-20).
With Gordon Perry leading the way with a staggering 22-point performance, the Sudbury squad trimmed the Magic 51-49, thanks to an across-the-board effort that saw every single player on the roster contribute in some way to the win.
Posting a 3-3 record of their own, the GSBA reps have not looked back since, riding a four-game winning streak as they prepare to resume OBL action on the weekend of February 21st and 22nd.
Still part of Pool S, the northern crew reeled off a pair of wins on January 17th/18th, beginning with a 45-35 triumph over the Thornhill Thunder.
While Gordon Perry was up to his old tricks on the attack, hooping 16 points, he had plenty of help as Jingkai Sun contributed eight points of his own.
The second affair would see the GTA Mavericks join the list of special rivals to the Storm as Sudbury slipped past the Toronto side, 36-33.
