Cubs crown Paper Kings in a big way
2026-01-30

Owen King netted a hat trick and Nolan Newton added a pair of markers as the Greater Sudbury Cubs hit double digits for the third time in the past six games on Thursday night, blasting the Espanola Paper Kings 10-2.

Finding the back of the net once each were Spencer Horgan, Kaedyn Long, Grant Booth, Mason Walker and Jacob Signoretti with Reid de Bokx and Colton Loiselle countering for Espanola.

The Cubs outshot the Paper Kings 68-28 as Espanola netminders Carter Arnold and Logan Vale allowed five goals each while Iain Wintle turned aside 26 shots in earning the win for Sudbury.

The Cubs have a full week off before hosting the Powassan Voodoos at home next Thursday and then travelling to Noelville to face the French River Rapids on Saturday.

With a record of 30-6-2-2, the Cubs lead the Timmins Rock by five points, with the latter holding three games in hand. These teams still have a pair of head to head clashes remaining, with Timmins visiting Sudbury on February 19th and the Cubs returning the favour on March 1st, travelling to the McIntyre Arena.
