Wolves pick up three big points against challenging opponents
2026-01-26

The Sudbury Wolves continue to pick up points against top-end opponents as their inspired post trade deadline play draws praise from many a long-time fan.

After falling just 2.2 seconds shy of taking the conference leading Brantford Bulldogs to a shootout, beaten 5-4 in overtime at home on Friday, the Wolves turned the tables Sunday in Rouyn-Noranda.

Rowan Henderson provided the heroics, pulling the visitors even at 3-3 with less than three minutes remaining in regulation time and then going end to end at 1:47 of the OT session as Sudbury edged the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies 4-3.

The teams traded goals in the opening frame as Jan Chovan broke the ice on behalf of the OHL reps before Charles Laforest evened the score for the Huskies.

Lars Steiner netted his third in just two games versus the Wolves as the projected late first / early second round NHL draft pick accounted for the only scoring of period two, giving the Huskies a 2-1 lead.

Samuel Rheault doubled that advantage early in the third before Adam Nemec countered at 5:26, setting the stage for Rowan Henderson to do his thing.

Bjorn Bronas recorded 41 saves in the contest, earning a well-deserved "W" between the pipes as the Wolves prepare for an Eastern Ontario road trek this week.

On Friday, Sudbury gave Brantford all they could handle in a game that went back and forth, almost from start to finish. Jean-Cristoph Lemieux scored twice to lead the Wolves offense, with Jan Chovan and Adam Nemec adding one snipe apiece.

Charlie Paquette (son of former Wolves forward Andy Paquette enjoyed a two-goal effort that include the buzzer beating game winner, with Marek Vanacker also finding the back of the net twice and Caleb Malhotra rounding out the scoring.
