19 games with at least a point for the Cubs

The Greater Sudbury Cubs saw their seven game winning streak snapped on Friday night in Powassan - though all wasn't for naught.

In playing to a 4-4 draw with the Powassan Voodoos on the road, the league leaders made it 19 straight games where they have earned at least one point, a stretch dating back to November.

The Cubs overcame a pair of two goal deficits in earning their point against the Voodoos as the homeside netted the only two goals of period one, courtesy of Pavel Barclay and Parker Bonsignore.

Sudbury struck for a pair of goals exactly three minutes apart in the middle stanza, with Eidan Macartney and Noah Kohan (short-handed) doing the honours.

Powassan would take advantage of power play opportunities to restore their two goal lead before the end of the frame (Caleb Dawson; Braeden Begley), but Lucas Antonioni got one back for the visitors to close out a wild 20 minutes of play, burying his 11th of the year with his team a man down.

Things got far more quiet in the third with only Nolan Newton hitting the mark for the Cubs, his team now three points up atop the NOJHL standings over the Timmins Rock - though the latter hold three games in hand.

In a far less dramatic affair the previous evening, the Cubs received a five-point performance from Owen King (2G-3A), four points from linemate Mason Walker (4A) and three each from Daks Klinkhammer (2G-A) and Spencer Horgan (G-2A), blasting the Kirkland Lake Gold Miners 10-2.

Rounding out the scoring for Sudbury were Eidan Macartney (2), Jacob Signoretti, Caden Dubreuil and Nolan Newton while Jack Nolan and Nathan Harper countered for the visitors.

The Cubs will enjoy a fairly quiet week to close out the month of January, hosting the Espanola Paper Kings Thursday night at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex in their only encounter prior to flipping the calendar to February.
