The winners' circle carousel keeps on spinning within the ranks of the SDSSAA Senior Girls Volleyball ranks.
Last weekend, it landed on the Lockerby Vikings slot as the team which is among a quartet of squads all tied at 6-1 in league play took home the banner at the CVDCS (Chelmsford Valley District Composite School) Tournament, sweeping past the Lo-Ellen Park Knights (also 6-1) 25-18, 25-17 in the final.
“I think we were most happy with how we adapted with newer players,” noted Lockerby middle Cassidy Warren. While Warren is a fixture with the Northern Chill Volleyball Club program, her OVA-sanctioned team was not in action this weekend – though three teammates (with other Chill teams) were absent.
“And keeping a high energy on the court really helped us,” Warren added.
The bonus for Warren was that setter Becca George also plays on the same Chill team, allowing for at least some familiarity in a critical area. Either way, she most certainly agreed that the 2025-2026 season will go down as one to remember – as the standings might indicate.
“I find this year more competitive than last year; the teams are more evened out,” she said. “You have to play at the highest level because there are so many teams that honestly play just like a club team."
High-school students are into their January exam break, with league play resuming on February 2nd.
"Right after exams are done, we are looking at how we can accommodate people to have practices," said Warren. "Mister (Stephen) Beausoleil is very flexible, so we're looking to see where we can fit in practices."
The 2025-2026 Lockerby Vikings senior girls volleyball team also welcomes aboard Cassidy Cloutier, Lorelai Van Drunen, Brooklyn Melanson, Kendra Crew, Bailey MacLennan, Maili Jutila, Rayen Cabezas, Hazel Hendsbee, Maggie Polischuk, Brooke Rennie, Lilah Selby, Brinley Evans and assistant coach Dilyn Gilbert-Leduc.
