The GSSC (Greater Sudbury Soccer Club) 16U Impact boys have picked right up where they left off.
Despite not playing a single game in more than two months, the locals looked not too worse for the lack of wear on the weekend, resuming their PISL (Provincial Indoor Soccer League) season with a pair of victories on the road.
Facing Sporting FC from Toronto last Saturday, the Impact started quickly with goals from Diego Larios (on a penalty kick) and Nathan Estriplet to really get rolling in a hurry.
Ilyas Sambos would add a pair of strikes and Xander Millet adding the icing to a 5-0 lead, with only a singular defensive miscue spoiling the clean sheet out of the gate for keeper Sebastian Gonzalez.
The Sudbury lads cleaned that up nicely in game two opposite a more challenging Wexford FC side, as Corvyn Forest smashed one home from the edge of the box in the opening half and Nathan Estriplet and Ilyas Sambos both found the back of the net for the second consecutive day, lifting the Impact to a 3-0 win - much to the delight of goaltender Gonzalez.
"The boys produced one of their best all-round team performances," noted head coach Nigel Croome. "Hard work and positional play paid off - and the defense shut down everything that Wexford tried in the second half."
The 16U Impact opened their 2025-2026 indoor season with a 2-0 win over the Bradford Wolves in early November, playing to a scoreless tie with the Thornhill Bolts later that same day.
The team will now enjoy a few practice sessions together before travelling to the Seneca Sting Dome on Valentine's Day for a two game set, doing battle with the Richmond Hill Soccer Club and Whitby FC.
