Knights get as far as the semis at Jaguars Classic in Ottawa
2026-01-16

While a good number of the local senior high-school boys basketball teams were busy at the Mitch Lalonde Memorial Tournament at Lasalle Secondary last weekend, the Lo-Ellen Park Knights opted to take their show on the road.

The defending city champs were part of an impressive field that contested the St Joseph Jaguars Classic in Ottawa last weekend, posting a four-game winning streak before being eliminated in semi-final action.

The Knights opened play with a relatively easy 80-49 win over the St Pius Catholic HS X-Men but were far more pushed in game two, edging the St Francis Catholic HS Coyotes 67-63.

Quin Mazzuchin and Will Church led the attack with 15 and 14 points respectively, with Noah Skrobot (10) and Keelan Donnelly (8) also lending a helping hand offensively, when needed.

Lo-Ellen improved to 3-0, vanquishing the St Peter Catholic HS Knights 58-43 before drawing deep into the reserves with a 68-63 triumph over the number one seeded team in the tournament, the E.S. Jeanne Mance Dragons from Montreal.

Mazzuchin (20 pts) and Church (17) were once again front and centre in this contest, with Breayden Legendre also reaching the ten-point plateau with an 11-point effort.

The consensus favourites in the SDSSAA ranks this year again, Lo-Ellen were sent packing by the St Patrick High-School Irish, 63-48 winners over the Sudbury lads.

A big matchup this week against the Lockerby Vikings was rescheduled to January 28th due to a snow date, with all of the teams more or less shutting things down for a week or so due to the first semester exams.
