The Sudbury U14B North Stars were held in check for one game and one game only - and that game was most definitely not the championship final of the Burlington Blast tournament as the locals returned north with a banner in hand last weekend.
Competing in a four team grouping, the Sudbury girls kicked off the event in style, swatting aside the Etobicoke Stingers 8-3 as Caydence Flynn and Norah McKinley netted three goals each, with Kyla Gilpin accounting for the remaining two markers.
In the only encounter where Sudbury was limited to less than six goals, the North Stars and host Burlington Blast played to a 3-3 draw as Norah McKinley (2) and Julia Rocca handled the offense for the GSRA (Greater Sudbury Ringette Association) reps.
The tie only served to light a fire under the Stars who responded with a 10-3 shellacking of the Caledonia Lightning, Serenity Lefrancois and Norah McKinley leading the charge, each with a hat trick.
Kyla Gilpin (2), Emily Mattson and Caydence Flynn capped off the scoring for the winners.
By the time that Sunday morning arrived, there was no slowing down the ringette freight train from the nickel city as the North Stars doubled the Etobicoke Stingers 6-3 in the championship affair as Kyla Gilpin and Caydence Flynn hit the mark twice each.
Remaining tallies came courtesy of Norah McKinley and Serenity Lefrancois as the Sudbury girls celebrated with a roster that also featured Reija Majalahti, Hannah St Jean, Riley Paquette, Leah Lavoie, Leah McKague, Alissa Larose, Olivia Lafrenière, Sohvi Roy, Talia Martin and Jordyn Joslin.
