Football Ontario provincial I.D. camps come to Sudbury
2026-01-08

In recent years, the likes of Khimberley Williams, Paolo Grossi, Cohen Strickland, Caileigh Ryan, Levi Blouin, Byron Marshall, Mason McLaughlin, Elsa Blum and Colton Savage have all been among the local football talent who have cracked Team Ontario rosters - and they've not been alone.

This year, the starting point for one and all who wish to pursue this dream, taking them from the nickel city to competitions right across the country, will start in Sudbury.

On (Saturday) February 21st, the Lancer Dome will serve as the venue of choice as Football Ontario hosts a series of Talent Identification workouts, sessions that will run pretty much right through the day.

"We're trying to grow the game in Sudbury," noted Team Ontario coach and regional coordinator Matthew Mott. "Sudbury has had some success with getting kids on the teams."

The schedule of activities, at the moment, appears to be as follows:

U14 Boys (2013 / 2014): 8:15 a.m. through to 10:15 a.m.

U16 Girls (2011 / 2012 / 2013): 10:15 a.m. through to 12:15 p.m.

U18 Girls (2009 / 2010 / 2011): 10:15 a.m. through to 12:15 p.m.

U16 Boys (2011 / 2012): 12:15 p.m. - 2:45 p.m.*

U18 Boys (2009 / 2010): 2:45 p.m. - 5:15 p.m.*

* times not yet finalized

Now in his third year with the program, Mott has taken on more of a leadership role, happy to serve as a contact for any enquiries from players or parents (mottmatthew38@gmail.com).

Mott was joined last year by local football coach Shane Hutchison, assisting with the process, with both men part of the Confederation Chargers staff that claimed their first city title in more than twenty years last fall.
