Semi-final Sunday was as far as the Sudbury teams got as the Whitby Ringette Association hosted their annual A/B tournament last weekend.
The U14 A North Stars strung together four straight round robin wins before being ousted thanks to a 4-3 overtime setback at the hands of the Forest Xtreme.
The Sudbury girls thumped the Waterloo Wildfire 8-0 to kick off their run as Jovie Scharf recorded a hat trick to show the way offensively for the winners. Scharf was joined on the scoresheet by ZoƩ Beaulieu, Brielle Blanchette, Charlee Proulx, Avery Bigras and Gabrielle Phillippe.
The locals improved to 2-0, scoring the final three goals of the game in slipping past the West Ottawa Wild later in the day. A two goal performance from Charlee Proulx took centre stage for the Stars, with Jovie Scharf, Tianna Guilbeault and Addison Resmer also lighting the lamp.
The stiffest preliminary game test for the SRA reps would come against a familiar foe as Charlee Proulx scored with six seconds to go in the game, lifting the U14A North Stars past the Timmins Tornadoes 4-3.
Brielle Blanchette, Avery Bigras and Addison Resmer had one goal each for the Sudbury squad, which closed off a flawless initial stretch with a 7-2 triumph over the Metcalfe Hornets.
Penelope Lalonde and Avery Bigras had two goals each for the North Stars, who netted five second period goals in pulling away from their just south of Ottawa based adversaries.
The end of the line would come Sunday morning as the Sudbury entry failed to protect a 4-2 lead as Adya Carrothers scored just minutes into OT to propel Forest into the finals.
Brielle Blanchette, Alexie Whissell, Avery Bigras and Jovie Scharf accounted for the offensive production for a North Stars' entry which also included Kylie Savoie, Rylee Smagac and Isabelle Michaud on the roster.
Meanwhile, the U18+ (Open) A North Stars captured three of four in their pool but could not keep pace with the Nepean Blue Ravens in the Final Four, eliminated thanks to a 5-1 loss.
Sudbury started with a split on Friday, hitting the win column with a 7-5 victory over the Forest Xtreme (Teagan Hirsimaki-2, Chelsea Clingen, Mackenzie Loates, Dominique Baldasaro, Katie Vandeloo) but were on the wrong side of a 7-3 scoreboard with the Ottawa Venom later that night (Tyler Caldwell, Dominique Baldasaro, Avery Blanchard).
The Open North Stars women tightened things up noticeably in game three, shutting down the Richmond Hill Lightning 5-1 as Dominique Baldasaro made it four goals in three games with a two goal effort.
Mackenzie Loates, Tyler Caldwell and Katie Vandeloo all found their way back to the scoresheet in game three, the latter potting the hat trick in game four as Sudbury dumped Whitby 7-4.
Tyler Caldwell chipped in with a pair of tallies with solo markers coming courtesy of Dominique Baldasaro and Avery Blanchard, with Caldwell accounting for the only goal in a losing cause in the semis.
The Sudbury U19 A North Stars also took part in the tournament, posting a record of 2-2 following wins the Timmins Tornadoes (3-2) and Nepean Ravens (4-3) and losses against the Forest Xtreme (5-4) and Dorchester Dragons (7-5) in a division that featured a ton of parity.
