It would take six swings but the Sudbury Wolves may have finally hit their home run between the pipes for the 2025-2026 season.
On December 19th, Paolo Frasca became the sixth different netminder to enter a game for the Wolves this season - but in his three starts since that contest, all the 19 year-old native of Toronto has done is to win three straight with a goals against average of 2.33 and an astounding save percentage of 94.2%.
Frasca was especially sharp in the opening two periods Friday night against the North Bay Battalion as the visitors peppered the young man who was playing in the BCHL (British Columbia Hockey League) with 33 shots, 20 in the first period alone.
With Frasca standing taller than his 5'11" frame, the Wolves somehow managed to exit the forty minute mark with a 4-2 lead, capping the evening off with a very solid final frame in registering a 6-2 win over their divisional rivals.
Recent acquisition Carter Kostuch got things rolling less than three minutes in for Sudbury, with Kieron Walton and Ethan Dean both adding two goals efforts, while Alex Pharand added his 10th of the season - but seventh in the past five games.
Nick Wellenreiter and Ryder Carey countered for North Bay, who trailed 2-0 at the end of the first in spite of the fact that they amassed a shot per minute in the stanza.
While Sudbury goal scorers were front and centre, it should be noted that both Pharand and Walton were set-up beautifully with passes from Artem Gonchar and Nathan Villeneuve respectively as the Wolves pulled into sole possession of eighth place, two points ahead of the Brampton Steelheads.
The local juniors will close out this home and home weekend set with a trip to North Bay on Sunday afternoon, heading off to Sault Ste Marie for a date with the Greyhounds on Wednesday night and returning home next weekend to host both the Niagara Ice Dogs (Friday) and the Ottawa 67's (Sunday).
