With their season opener just a day away, the Sudbury Five added one more piece to a puzzle they hope is able to bring this community a second consecutive BSL (Basketball Super League) championship.
Guard Guan Ziyu has been loaned to the Five from the Guangzhou Loong Lions of the Chinese Basketball Association, shortly after leading Peking University to a CUBAL D1 crown.
Recognized as MVP in the championship final, Ziyu netted 30 points and seven rebounds as Peking bounced Huaqiao University with relative ease. Drafted by the Guangzhou Loong Lions, the 20 year-old sharpshooter appeared in exhibition games against a trio of NBA teams prior to the start of the 2025-2026 campaign.
The Sudbury Five will kickoff the 2025-2026 BSL campaign by welcoming the Lake Erie Jackals to Sudbury on December 29th, back at it again on (Saturday) January 3rd with the Montreal Tundra providing the opposition.
