Cubs hit their stride in final forty minutes of play
2025-12-19

Greater Sudbury Cubs' head coach Darryl Moxam was harping on his team to play with more speed.

Once they hit high gear Thursday night at the Gerry McCrory Countryside Sports Complex, there was just no slowing them down.

Up 1-0 on the French River Rapids after one period of play, the league leaders scored five times in each of the ensuing two stanzas, posting a convincing 11-3 victory and increasing their lead over the Timmins Rock to four points (though the latter have four games in hand).

Owen King exploded with a four goal game to lead the way for Sudbury while linemate Kaedyn Long chipped in with four assists. Remaining goals came courtesy of Daks Klinkhammer (2), Spencer Horgan, Noah Kohan, Lucas Antonioni, Mason Walker and Nate Lazarus.

Jonah Gareau, Joey Stiles and Michael Morascyzk answered in a losing cause for the Rapids, outshot by a final count of 48-18.

Sudbury dropped a 4-3 decision to the Powassan Voodoos after Dylan Rousselle forced overtime, netting the game-tying goal with just over a minute to play while teammate Marcus Kratz scored the game-winner at 5:16 of OT.

Jesse Lefebvre and Pavel Barclay accounted for the remaining two goals for the visitors, with Caden Dubreuil pulling the trigger twice for the Cubs, with Kaedyn Long netting the final marker.

The local NOJHLers now enjoy an extended holiday break, back in action on (Thursday) January 8th when the Powassan Voodoos are back in town, and then heading to Noelville to face the French River Rapids on Friday night.
