Quin Mazzuchin and the Knights get the better of the Bears
2025-12-18

By all accounts, Lo-Ellen Park Knights senior athletic sensation Quin Mazzuchin will confirm, at some point in the new year, his destination of choice to pursue football at the next level.

Just for good measure, however, the multi-sport talent is enjoying quite the Farewell Tour with the Knights basketball team this winter.

Days after missing only three shots in helping to lead Lo-Ellen past the Glebe Collegiate Institute Gryphons 73-62 in opening round play of the Orillia Blackball Classic, Mazzuchin was at the top of his game in league play as well.

A 39-point outburst that opposing coach Ben Smith labelled an "one of the most impressive basketball performances he had ever witnessed" was more than enough to push a still hurting LEP crew past the St Benedict Bears 79-68.

Back from a few weeks off with tendinitis, Noah Skrobot chipped in with 21 points, with Keelan Donnelly adding 11 while the trio of Dylan Nelson (24), Keegan Adair (21) and Sullivan Smith (12) topped the scoring parade for the Bears.

The Knights followed up their first round win over Glebe with triumphs over both the Patrick Fogarty Flames (73-64) and Upper Canada College (66-58) before dropping the final to the Holy Cross Crusaders (67-58) in a match that sat as a two-point game (58-56) with two minutes to play.

According to Lo-Ellen head coach Mac Bertrand, it is not simply the offensive prowess that sets Mazzuchin apart.

"His defense, rebounding and passing have all gone up a level from last year," said Bertrand, who went on to also praise the likes of Will Church, Hunter Laplante and Kobi Elendu as his team breaks for Christmas before heading to Kingston (January 2nd and 3rd) for a series of friendlies.

The Knights also advanced to the semi-finals in Collingwood in early December, losing to Westdale SS Warriors from Hamilton after beating the Owen Sound DSS Wolves and Barrie North C.I. Vikings as Will Church was named to the tournament all-star team.

Rounding out the Lo-Ellen 2025-2026 roster are Yug Patel, Narayan Shukla, Alexzander Stafford-Snow, Adrian Aho, Ethan Farrugia and Brayden Legendre, expected to be back from the injured reserved ranks early in the new year.
