There were a few surprises in store Friday night for loyal fans of the Sudbury Wolves as the local juniors welcomed the Owen Sound Attack for their one and only visit to town this year.
For starters, the tally that would unleash the Teddy Bear Toss would come courtesy of a penalty shot goal, with Kieran Walton doing the honours.
Currently the fourth lowest scoring team in the OHL, the Wolves would find a way to rally from a four-goal deficit, posting a quartet of markers in a span of 5:55 late in the second period, deadlocking the contest at 6-6.
Naturally, this would be followed by no scoring at all through the final twenty minute stanza as well as three on three overtime, giving way to a shootout that required six rounds before captain Nathan Villeneuve lifted Sudbury to a 7-6 win.
There is no denying the entertainment value was there for the assembled crowd as the Wolves remain seven points back of a playoff berth.
Joining Walton on the scoresheet for the homeside were Gavin Ewles, Rowan Henderson, Daniel Berehowsky, Artem Gonchar and Nathan Villeneuve while Tristan Delisle, Nicholas Sykora, Pierce Mbuyi, Caden Taylor, Braedyn Rogers and Wesley Royston countered for the Attack.
Karsen Chartier started between the pipes for Sudbury but gave way to Bjorn Bronas after the first, his team trailing 4-2. Nicholas Sykora and Daniel Berehowsky traded goals in the early stages of the shootout before Villeneuve finally brought the evening to a close.
The Wolves are back in action Sunday afternoon at home, welcoming the Brampton Steelheads to town.
