A lovely individual effort from Winnipeg Jets' prospect Kieron Walton snapped a 1-1 tie in the third period as the Sudbury Wolves rode a 34-save effort from Karsen Chartier to a 3-1 win over the Sarnia Sting.
With an illness-depleted Sudbury roster welcoming call-ups Mason Walker, Bodhi Ryan and Kingston Harris for the contest, play at times lacked flow, the teams playing a scoreless opening frame before Beckham Edwards put the visiting Sting on the board (2nd period - 1:16).
The Wolves pulled even on the power-play midway through the frame as Nathan Villeneuve rifled home his 11th tally of the season, with Walton threading the needle on the pass.
A relatively calm affair that featured only five minor penalties combined remained deadlocked at 1-1 until 6:47 of the third when Walton dipsy-doodled his way through a small collection of Sarnia defenders, using his extended reach to swing the puck around netminder Patrick Quinlan for what would stand as the game-winning marker.
Rowan Henderson added some insurance with an empty-net goal, fending off Sting blueliner Lukas Fischer to ice the Wolves ninth win of the year. The team will search for number ten Sunday afternoon at home, welcoming the Oshawa Generals to town for a 2:00 p.m. puck drop.
