The Sudbury Wolves have dug themselves quite a hole.
With a pair of seven-game losing skids already part of the early season package, it's obvious the local juniors will need to string together some wins, at likely a couple of different stages this winter, in order to find their way back into playoff contention.
A huge 6-3 home ice victory over the London Knights looked to have set the team up nicely for a prospective run of success.
Not only did an 8-2 loss Sunday afternoon to the Brampton Steelheads take the air out of that balloon in a hurry, it also came against the second of two teams that Sudbury needs to overtake to secure a spot at the OHL post-season dance.
A pair of goals from Jakub Fibigr and six different teammates lighting the lamp was more than enough to allow Brampton to extend their lead to seven points over the Wolves in the standings, the Steelheads now just three points back of the 7th place Niagara Ice Dogs.
Joining Fibigr on the scoresheet yesterday were Mason Zebeski, Ty Daniels, Troy Patton, Peter Green, Gabriel Chiarot and Julian Demiglio while Chase Coughlan and Kieron Walton replied in a losing cause.
Sudbury trailed this contest by a score of 3-2 heading to period three before the homeside blew the doors off the barn as Brampton scored on eight of their 36 shots directed at Wolves' netminder Bjorn Bronas, who had trouble maintaining the level of play from his debut in the nickel city on Friday against London.
Coach Scott Barney and company will not have to wait long to try and avenge this loss as the team squeezes a stop in Brampton on Saturday between a home battle with the Barrie Colts on Friday and their only visit of the season with the Guelph Storm next Sunday afternoon.
